Brewery Hoppin’ with The Struts!
About a month ago The Struts were in San Diego for a show, and during one of their off days they went on a brewery tour around town with the good folks at FM 94.9. Luckily for all of us, the Rowlbertos boys were asked to tag along and document the whole experience. What ensued was an epic hoppy day!
We kicked off the tour at Hess Brewing here in North Park. I’m happy this was one of the three breweries on the tour. They have some great beer (my personal favorite being the North Park IPA), and it’s definitely one of my favorite breweries to hang out at. We shot a little footage outside, and then headed in to get some footage of the band trying out some beers and meeting fans. For those who aren’t aware, 94.9 held a contest where the winners got to ride on a party bus with The Struts and go to all the breweries with them. A couple of us rode along as well to capture some footage (The rest of us followed behind in Rowley’s car, which led to a really cool shot of the bus driving through Balboa Park).
After Hess, we went a little ways down to Thorn Street Brewing, at the southern tip of North Park. There, they had the back patio bar closed off for us, where we were able to hang out and sample some more beers. The band was taken behind the bar and got a little introduction on brewing. Thorn Street doesn’t get as much attention as some of the bigger breweries around town, but it’s definitely worth checking out!
Following Thorn Street, we made our way downtown to Half Door Brewing, located just a couple blocks from Petco Park in East Village. Half Door is the newest brewery of the three, having only opened a couple years ago. It’s located in a cool old re-purposed house, and has a huge upstairs patio with a great view of the ballpark. Definitely a good hangout spot for both pre and post game brews. Of course, we hung out on the patio, where Rowley set the drone loose and got some great aerial footage of everyone.
If you guys haven’t heard The Struts, you should definitely give them a listen! They are easily one of the best bands putting out new music today; and they’re a ton of fun to hang out with! It was cool watching them mingle with fans as well as get an introduction to some of America’s finest brews. I want to personally thank FM 94.9 and all the breweries for involving us in this unique experience! Now, click here and check out the awesome video we threw together!
