2016 San Diego Oysterfest!

By Derek

As most of you probably know, the San Diego Oysterfest took place down at the embarcadero a couple weeks ago, and once again, the Rowlbertos dudes were there to document the occasion!  For those of you who have never been to Oysterfest, it’s an epic two day event jam-packed with booze, bands, food, and oysters…obviously!  Each day had a different theme concerning the music line-up.  Friday was heavy on the EDM side, with Thievery Corporation being the main headliner, while Saturday had more of a reggae/rock focus, with Rebelution closing down the festival.

I was there helping out on Friday, which despite being the shorter festival day, was still pretty epic.  We stashed our gear backstage in the VIP area, and then wandered around the embarcadero checking out what shots we needed to get.  Aside from the musicians, we needed to get plenty of oyster footage, along with the various vendors and alcohol sponsors.  Of course, we also wanted to get shots of all the festival goers partying it up, which was no problem.  Everyone who comes to Oysterfest has a blast, and isn’t afraid to show it.  The energy everyone gives off dancing around and socializing is electric!

Aside from the standard cameras we ran around the festival with, we also broke out the new drone and took it for a spin.  The footage Rowley got with it was amazing!  Of course, the setting and gorgeous sunsets that weekend helped out a bit.  It was cool to see how excited people got over seeing the drone in action.  Festival goers were approaching us left and right asking about the drone and chipping in their personal experiences and advice.  Considering all the attention it’s garnered, I’d say the drone was well worth the investment.

Once again, Oysterfest had an great turnout, and I think the transition to Friday-Saturday helped in that aspect.  I’m pretty sure they’re going to continue with that format for future ‘Fests down the line.  That way everyone can party hard both Friday and Saturday, and still have Sunday to recover before the work week starts.  Smart.  Anyways, we got another great recap vid on our hands, go ahead and click here to check it out and see for yourselves!
